Wayfinding refers to information systems that guide people through a physical environment & enhance their understanding & experience of the space. A wayfinding system is more than just signs. Consequently, planning, implementing & maintaining a wayfinding system requires an approach that is based on holistic solutions. We must convey wayfinding information consistently in all forms; visual, verbal & virtual - The 3 V's
Clear – Displaying only the information needed at a specific point along a path in a simple & visible manner.
Consistent - Information must be displayed & communicated in the same manner from location to location & between different types of media.
Comprehensive – A wayfinding system should be designed for every aspect & area of a facility or campus. A single visual language needs to be implemented.
Stakeholder Buy-In is the key. A comprehensive wayfinding plan accompanied by effective sign design will never see the light of day unless the project stakeholders have been included in the process. 115°West is well versed in stakeholder presentations developed to garner input, provide wayfinding education & ultimately receive the approval to implement programs.
